Will your BT Redcare alarm leave you vulnerable?

Will your BT Redcare alarm leave you vulnerable?

You may have seen recent news reporting BT’s decision to withdraw their Redcare service with effect from 1st August 2025.

This will impact all intruder and fire alarm systems currently using a BT Redcare product and you will need to find an alternative solution before the 1st August 2025.

Given the criticality of alarm systems to insurance covers, we encourage you to speak to your insurance broker to find out what terms are imposed within your insurance policy (if any) to decide which alarm system you can replace your BT Redcare system for without jeopardising your cover.

There are specific technological specifications delivered through Redcare and it’s important to replace your alarm system with a service that provides a like-for-like performance level and check that it is suitable for your insurance cover within the terms and conditions of the policy.

In a statement by BT, they confirmed that “DP3 level ATS will be acceptable to insurers as it meets the same security standards as the existing legacy BT Redcare products, ensuring there is no downgrade to the current security provided by the legacy system”.

Insurers such as AXA strongly advise that Redcare customers act quickly as it’s almost inevitable that the closer we get to 1st August 2025, the more likely installation bottlenecks and product shortages will begin to occur.

Some insurers may ask for evidence of the maintenance agreement in the event of a claim, so it’s important to ensure your new alarm service will be maintained in full working order under an annual maintenance contract with an appropriate alarm maintenance company or installer regulated by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) or by the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB).
